HAWAI'I P-20
I joined Hawai'i P-20 as a Communications Assistant shortly after I resigned as a Graphic Designer for ASUH (2019), hoping to gain professional experience in an organization with larger reach and community impact.
Hawai'i P-20 is a statewide partnership between the Hawai'i Department of Education and educational entities (Univerisities, high schools, etc.) with the mission to strengthen college readiness for local students.
Working for such an education and data-oriented organization was so eye opening, and I was excited to put my graphic design skills to good use (again)!
REDESIGNING COMPANY COLLATERAL

By far, my main job in Hawai'i P-20 was turning plain word documents to professionally designed projects.
One of my last projects was a 15-page FAFSA informational booklet, intended to distribute to HI high schoolers looking at financial aid for college. I was originally presented with some word documents and graphs, and then ran with a cute tropical piggybank motif in
the rebranding.

Many drafts, edits and updates later- and hundreds of pamphlets were circulated in career counselor offices and through parents, students and teachers in HI.
One of my favorite projects! 🐷🎓💸

"How to Complete the FAFSA" Booklet
Revamping and Facelifting
Left out are: The miles and miles of emails for every draft, text edit and finalization! These were documents that GEARUP specialists (P-20 staff) would need for meetings, presentations, and summits. Along the way I also picked up a bit of what they were presenting on- but to be honest, my focus what on presentation 😆
Work-Based Learning Continuum (WBL) Graph

final!
drafts...

The Coordinator for this wanted to blend the original documents' text copy and "jumping guy" visual. We were all super pleased with the final product, and it was an integral document in presentations which continued to be referred to as the "jumping guy" graph :)
College Fit Game Worksheets

our documents!
The Coordinator for this was inspired by Oregon GEARUP's 'College Fit' game and asked me to do a similar mockup for our state. I gave the original design a nice facelift, had fun making up a bunch of local college entitites, and the College Fit Game was ready for high school counselors to use!
Education to Career Arrow

first draft
made it to the summit!
All I know is, this arrow had endless of revisions, drafts and versions! Exactly illustrating the ideas the Coordinators' would ask for was no easy task, but the results were worth it. I was lucky enough to see the arrow graph being used in the P-20 Statewide Summit, and I definitely took photos :)
Making Excel Sheets...Pretty

the offerings
the beautification 💙
And for my last trick- making extremely dense, compact, dry excel sheets look just a little more pretty! I was sent quite a few of these sheets with the simple plea, "please make this look better" and I cracked my knuckles and WORKEd. Edits, pinging email threads, hours, and tears later- these documents are proof that sometimes banging your head on a keyboard does work.
MORE DESIGNS, ADS
(AND PHOTOSHOOTS)
Some other miscellanious designs I whipped up for my Coordinators! The highlight definitely was towards the Spring when my Supervisor was asking for me to recruit students for a phototshoot- I grabbed some friends (and myself) and these photos are still used to this day! :)
